I would assume that Jim is referring to the fact that one of
the recommended methods of making PostgreSQL aware of
pg_hba.conf changes (namely running /etc/init.d/postgresql-X.Y restart)
won't fly on MacOSX since he wasn't able to identify that script.

Which is due to Mac using a different startup mechanism. The
solution is to find out how to do the equivalent on Mac and
document that in the wiki.

Jim has been developing (and documenting) skillz re that on
Debian, some of which aren't transferrable verbatim (but
most definitely in concept).
