I was further thinking that the program logic of whether or not to compute 
conversions, for a selection of test results, could be guided by whether the 

        clin.test_type  .conversion_key <---  (if we would agree to such a 


        a null value (in which case do not attempt conversion)

or contained

        a value (in which case to compute conversions, where matches are found).
