I think so, but I now see that was understandable, because I had failed to
provide the context that the following snippet was
the only GNUmed placeholder
in what I believe was an otherwise complete LaTex document

and so wondered whether it was a deficiency in the above line that accounted
for the endless loop. But it now seems it was something else, and so if I would
want to further investigate it seems I should retry and, after a delay,
interrupt the process and inspect the log …
