Can't spare $10? If you really want to use it, it can work.

"sudo su" is NOT running as root! That also has problems. If are
really really scared of being root, then do "sudo su -". That is almost
as good as being root. The "-" is important! It fixes some of the sudo
breakage that affects gpsd.
