It almost works.  Here's the verion that I think is right (i.e. the
one that worked when I tried it):

          ./configure
          make
          make install tmac_wrap=""

(make uses an operand, not an environment variable, to initialize its
macros, and it's the install, not the build, that needs tmac_wrap)
