I didn't patch any sort of files on the system.

The project I was working on is now pretty much dead, but I'm happy as
long as things don't crash.  The goal in filing the bug wasn't to get
groff to accept this (since obviously it was invalid), but more on the
principle that software shouldn't segfault even in the face of invalid
input.
