[Health-dev] Development needs

I'm a software engineer with a problem to solve.  To solve it I'm looking for 
an open source health related database that I can use JSON with to store and 
search data.  It is my understanding that GNU Health has the capability to 
support external JSON calls but I haven't been able to locate an API or 
documentation on externally interacting with GNU Health.  Can you enlighten me 
if I'm wrong or point me to the source materials?
