Because 1) no one has really run into a situation where they need it for
the tasks at hand (anything that is too complex to shell script using
just POSIX features already deserves to be written in a full-featured
language in the first place, rather than bloating the shell), and 2) no
one has written a patch to propose it as a feature.

If you aren't willing to back up any of your wild ideas with actual
patches and concrete evidence why it makes life easier, then quit
proposing "features" that most shell scripters will never use in the
first place.
