I have tested this now and it works as expected. All numbered
files log.1 log.2 etc are renamed to a higher number and then
finally log is *copied* to log.1 and log is emptied.
I cannot explain the behaviour that you are seeing. Perhaps
there is another program rotating the files incorrectly
at the same time.
There does not seem to be any bug in cfengine.
