I get the following message when I open a .c file

File mode specification error: (invalid-function (.\c++-)
and then emacs opens file in fundamental mode.
Then I manually change teh mode to c. That is a pain.

how can I fix this

thanx

I'd start by searching for c++ in your .emacs file.
