May I ask which editor?

I can only offer a workaround (or a change of working habits):

0.) Paste the 10 lines: C-y or with middle mouse button.
1.) Kill the superfluous 10th line.
2.) Go back where you you killed the 10 lines C-u C-SPC C-u C-SPC
3.) Type C-y again
