The socket to X it seems, yes..

It is.. and it's not one among many as I presumed.

and it's not in 
xlsfonts | grep misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--

None that I can spot.
Can you suggest a string to grep /etc/ for?

neither strace and lsof show anything resembling those names.
