I was mostly posting to point out possible clues to OP's problem, not to
disparage `d-s-m', et al! I can see why people might want it, especially
if they're also using a lot of other software. Personally I feel that it
obscures an "Emacs approach" to editing that, when fully embraced, is
much more powerful (I also disable `transient-mark-mode'), but I would
have no interest in making that decision for other people, one way or
the other.
