No problem.  Have fun with it.

I would suggest to get your makefile up and running before trying to generalize 
it and make it easier to maintain.  You'll get a better idea of how to evolve 
the makefiles and what functions you'll need to create to help support it.

Tackling simultaneously the ideas of recursive makefiles and generality is 
extremely difficult unless you're very adept at Prolog-like (ie declarative) 
and LISP-like (ie functional) programming.  IME, "gmake -npqr" and $(warning) 
come in extremely handy
when debugging the makefiles and $(eval) comes in very handy in implementing 
some of the functionality that make this kind of structure easier to build.
