This forage demo is based on the dewey classification subjects available
at http://www.oclc.org/dewey/

As I suspected, this list is made available under the following rather
onerous license:

============================================================================
Libraries with ongoing subscriptions to WebDewey in CORC or Dewey for
Windows may post the DDC21 Summaries (i.e., the first three levels of the
Dewey Decimal Classification - for example, 500 Science is Level 1, 510
Mathematics is Level 2, 513 Arithmetic is Level 3) on their web sites
solely for the internal, noncommercial purpose of organizing the resources
made available to their patrons via such web sites. Such use of the DDC 21
Summaries should be accompanied by the following notice on the initial
screen:

The Dewey Decimal Classification is 1996-2001 OCLC Online Computer
Library Center, Incorporated. Used with Permission.

DDC, Dewey, and Dewey Decimal Classification are registered trademarks of
OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Incorporated.

All other use of the DDC requires prior written permission from OCLC
Forest Press. To request a licensing proposal, please send an e-mail
message to address@hidden, describing in detail your proposed use
of the DDC.

My understanding of this is that we cannot use the list of dewey subject
classifications in Koha. I'm even breaking the terms of the license with
my little demo here. Also, this list is limited to the top three levels
of the classification. (ie 956, but not 956.4). To get the full
classification, you need to purchase the DDC21 book at $325 US. The
license on this data would undoubtedly be even harsher than that on the
first three levels.
