Hi Kieren,

I can't do a mock-up right now (not at home right now), but I would try
moving the bar line engraver to the staff level and add some verbal
instructions for the performers. (Or quote mm1-2 of Instrument 4 in a
smaller kind-of-ossia staff in the single part for Instrument 3 and do
similar quotes for Instruments 1&2. Then one could get away with a
single "repeat ad lib" in Instrument 4's part as verbal instruction.)

All the best,
Martin
