Hi all,
got it sorted eventually, one of you were right about it being my antivirus, it didn’t trust the lilypond file so only downloaded part of the file, hence why it showed up as a CRDOWNLOAD.
A few clicks and started no bother.

You've opened it in Notepad, which is for text files. which it is definitely NOT.

I know next to nothing about Denemo. I guess it's a graphical music editor. In that case it
would create and open files in its own format, but would not know what to do with a *.ly file.
If you have a Lilypond text file (*.ly) then open it in a text editor (or maybe better yet,
Frescobaldi, which I also gave you a URL for). And read the Learning manual!

There is certainly a learnng curve associated with Lilypond, but the results are worth it.
