Personally, I do not mind, if we extend for example https://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/file/c2f2fb1df9ed/etc/module.mk by some rule to create a PNG which is not transparent in the middle, or to store a Mac conform Icon in /etc/icons, if generating it is not possible.
