Follow-up Comment #9, bug #57435 (project octave):

Cross-compilation with suitesparse 4.2.1 finished.
Octave does NOT close unexpectedly whilst running the test suite with that
version.
It might be related to this(?) change in suitesparse:
https://github.com/DrTimothyAldenDavis/SuiteSparse/releases/tag/v4.3.0

Also when looking at the back trace (#3) with the newer suitesparse (v4.5.6):
"droptol" should default to -1.0 not to a very small positive number. And
scale is supposed to be false but it is 240. The address of this doesn't seem
to be correct either.
Something seems to wreak havoc on the stack...

I'll try to remove the tests as suggested by jwe in comment #8.
