Maybe, I wasn't able to explain that before. So, here with an example:

vertices = [0, 0; 0, 1; 1, 0; 1, 1];
faces = [1, 2, 3; 2, 3, 4];
cdata = reshape (1:6, 3, 2);
hp = patch ("Vertices", vertices, "Faces", faces, "cdata", cdata, "FaceColor",
"interp");


It wouldn't be possible to keep "cdata" and "facevertexcdata" of that patch
object consistent without duplicating vertices.
