"as required?" :)

I'm not sure how this talk about synchronization
differs from what already exists:

* Upgade to 0.11.93 and use Edit|Preferences|General, and click on
"download new headers and bodies from subscribed groups when starting Pan"

* Hit shift-a,shift-b to download new headers & bodies from subscribed
  groups whenever you like

As far as making things searchable in a cross-group way,
there are four ways to make this happen:

_ Write it yourself and submit a patch. (preferred)

_ Make a compelling argument of why cross-group searching will be more
useful to more people than the things currently on the Pan roadmap:
the Windows port, scoring, saving/restoring the task manager when
quitting and restarting Pan, cron`able Pan, posting binaries.

_ Wait until everything with a higher priority has been written.

_ Make a large donation to the Pan tip jar. ;)

cheers,
Charles
