Thanks for your interest. British railways is just a 'clean' example of the problem. Anyplace I select a header indicating a yEnc article collection with pan I get delivered to my local computer two types of files; one being a collection of .msg files, one for each image incorporated into the yEnc header (I suppose because I cannot see what is there). The other file being called an 'attachment' in binary, the size of which is consistent with all of the images encoded under the header. The two types are equivalent because I can create the 'attachment' from the .msg files using uudeview locally. I have been unable to figure out any way to convert either of these file types to a picture of a train. Somebody, someplace must know how to do that trick.

Thanks -Rick

I didn't have anything to contribute because my ISP does not give me any messages in alt.binaries.pictures.britishrail.  So I couldn't see what problems you were having or offer any suggestions. I do actively follow alt.binaries.pictures.rail and my ISP does give me lots to work with there.  Does your installation of Pan work on those files?  And if not, maybe you can give the details of a few failures?

Thanks for this. I'm still conversing with google about yEnc.

What I was hoping for with this list is a linked thread of conversation
that could gather public knowledge on a topic. Doesn't seem to work that
way. Maybe someone here can say how to make that so. I got a couple of
emails on this subject that never made the list so I'll post this here
now and see what happens.
