Hi , Man :D
(i try to ask you some question .... if you have time...while your gcc is working....)

why you have decided to change to kernel 2.6 ??????????????

i think that kernel 2.4 is more stable and secure.

I agree.  Who said that I was changing to 2.6?  I don't recall making any statement that 11.0 would not include a 2.4.x kernel.

After 11.0, I'll have no choice.  Ask the glibc people why they've chosen to stop supporting linuxthreads which are needed to use a vanilla 2.4.x kernel.  That wasn't my idea.

AND SLACKWARE IS STABLE AND SECURE first of all.

what can you do with 2.6 that you can not do with 2.4 ???

Well, there are a few things that are better with 2.6, but you should ask someone who has more spare time.  I'm forced to use 2.6 on one of my machines because 2.4 lacks certain hardware support.  All the rest are running 2.4.

Anyway, I admire your direct approach, and your opinion on the 2.4 kernel, but people like us are in the minority.  I get mail all the time from people who are complaining that I'm taking too long to get rid of 2.4.  You're one of the few to understand why I'm taking so long.

another question .... there is an official future for slackware in the 64bit word ??

I think so, but not with the next release.  Plus I only have one fairly slow AMD64 machine.  I'd need a decent compile cluster to keep up with the maintainance.

Take care,

Pat

Miii!
e pure apache 1.3

vorrei fare un sondaggio per sapere quanti usano apache 1.3 su slackware.
O quanti girano il 2.4.
