I am not familiar with what Glen said about control systems, but there is
a group of people (Control Systems Group) that are interested in
Perception Control Theory. PCT says that people behave as hierarchies of
control systems, trying to maintain their perceptions of world on a 
certain level, by suppressing disturbances.
