[Swarm-Modelling] question about installation

Hi everyone,

 

I'm a beginner with swarm software and used a guide to installation of java based swarm proposed by Marcus. I have installed cygwin without problems but I cannot untar the file for swarm:

ftp://ftp.santafe.edu/pub/swarm/binaries/w32/latest/Swarm-2.2-pretest-11.tar.gz

 I keep getting an error messages like this:

!   C:\Swarm-2.2-pretest-13.tar.gz: Cannot open \usr\X11R6\lib\libXpm.dll.a (Swarm-2.2\lib\libXpm.a --> \usr\X11R6\lib\libXpm.dll.a)
!   C:\Swarm-2.2-pretest-13.tar.gz: Symbolic link points to missing file

 What should I do with it? Do I need to have linux on my computer to install swarm?

Can someone suggest some step by step guide (for total "idiot") about the installation of the java based swarm on XP please?

I'm aware that my question is not very intelligent but I really would like to learn about this software and use it in my research (behavioral economics).

I'll appreciate any help.
