I think that the best solution would be to properly package Fluidsynth, maybe as a Fink package, and also the applications depending on it. Not sure why
there is not a Fluidsynth package in Fink yet.

Fluidsynth was submitted as a fink package a year ago but since this
required an external MidiShare installation with respect to the fink
assigned /sw directory, it was suggested that an additional midishare
package for fink was required. This turned out to be a problem since the
task of preparing a fink MidiShare installation consisting of three
Cocoa apps, configuration files and drivers in addition to the MidiShare
framework is rather complicated to say the least.

One workaround that I had suggested to Josh was to add CoreMIDI support
to fluidsynth.

I remember now.. So adding CoreMIDI support is the key.

        Josh

In case it helps here are source file of CoreMidi input for LinuxSampler:

Attachment: MidiInputDeviceCoreMidi.cpp
Description: Binary data

Attachment: MidiInputDeviceCoreMidi.h
