| I don't know... there could be strings embedded in the binary image
| file, it is part of GIF and JPG standards.

mcview (the viewer of midnight commander) shows some starting
infos in the 'hex' view mode, which i can't find in the gcmd 'hex' view.

It doesn't, here.

| Anyway, having two Text-Entry-Boxes (one for text, one for hex) is wrong

| - There should be only one text-entry-box, and text/hex (and regular
| expression in the future ?) will be a radio button list below it.

Or the interpretation (mode) just can depend ont he active view mode ?
Anyway. what's the differenc if i search for a string "44 49 47 49 54 41 4c"
or for s tring "DIGITAL" - when both strings are displayed, couldn't you
just search the display (buffer) for either of them ?
(btw. marking a hex selection is somehwat tricky by now ;)

| Not sure I understood that - the search dialog closes when the user
| enters the text and clicks the "FIND" button.
That's the automatically part.
However, i may discover that i need to finetune my search,
or may just like to proceed with another one.
Some other apps offer an option 'keep dialog' (nedit for example).
m,cview does not, and i never liked it.
It's pressing a whole one key too much !!!
I will get old and die before my research is finished.
