How about, nobody has done it? (just a guess... maybe there are other
reasons.)

Why do you think it is not possible? It works for me.
> lynx -dump -file filename > output "filename as parameter"
It works, without -file.
> program | lynx -dump > output "filter"
That syntax wouldn't do; how is Lynx supposed to know that it should take
input from stdin, rather than using the default startfile?
