If I remember correctly,  couple versions ago lynx used to flash some
message like "Warning: page contains tables" or so,  or does my memory
completely deceive me?

I usually can recognize a table which is supposed to be a table.  It
could be nice to have lynx insert something like [TABLE BEGINS] and
[TABLE ENDS] around it.  However,  there would be a problem with nested
tables,  it could be quite ugly. 

Also,  many pages use tables to achieve some stupid layout,  and in this
case you probably don't want to know that it is a table.  Such pages are
usually messy enough without lynx inserting anything extra to them.
