I don't know how one ever ensures that doing anything will not kill
one's database files (such is my comfort level with Berkeley DB). But
building from source, I encountered no problems with the upgrade. I
still had my Makefile.local from when I built 1.1.3 and just copied it
in. It was utterly painless.
