It refers to a txiversion.log which is nowhere to be found!
It runs in a temporary directory to avoid leaving junk.
txiversion.tex is created as one line:
\input texinfo.tex @bye
Please make a file.tex containing that, and say
tex file
(not texi2dvi) and show me the file.log that results.
The trace I sent is the output of the txinfo3 test case
Ah, that makes more sense. Unfortunately, neither txinfo3 nor any other
txinfo automake test fails for me on my system. Although txinfo4
XFAILs, as well as auxdir2 and cond17, I don't know what that means.
And I note in passing that gcj4 does actually fail, with gcc 3.3.3 (from
ftp.gnu.org) on GNU/Linux (red hat 9).
The failure clearly indicates that \TeX has been redefined somewhere.
It would be easy enough to work around, one way or another, but I'm
quite curious as to what it has been redefined as.
Thanks,
k
