Judging by your config.log, you are still missing libpng12-dev and 
libxp-dev.  Perhaps the build will succeed nevertheless, but I guess you 
want support for PNG images.

As for the previous problem, you should have the variables defined now:
$ egrep '(XLIBS|XT_LIBS)' config/autoconf.mk
XLIBS           = -lX11 
XT_LIBS                 = -lXt
