I understand what you mean, and I would be pleased to add such a
check, if cmp were not an essential tool. But cmp is quite essential,
as defined in several UNIX standards, such as the Single Unix
Specification. If we start to add checks even for essential tools, we
would need to add checks for ls, touch, cd, test, wc, echo, and so
on. IMHO, that sounds really foolish.
