I believe the syntax to get a docstring to show "Blah blah 'foo" to show correctly you'd have to write "Blah blah \\='foo". Interestingly, such errors are not reported by checkdoc, but as you mentioned, byte-compilation reports them. -- Antoine Kalmbach
