Yes, this is so but for one GCL specific wrinkle -- we use the
produced executable at compile time to finish building the final
image.  This will require GCL specific work in the makefiles to get
cross compilation to work.

Thanks for these!  AFAICT, your breakthrough indicates that the wine
initiative should be placed on the back burner for the foreseeable
