I don't think they need any fancy configuration but you could try
# rmmod pl2303
# rmmod usbserial
# modprobe usbserial vendor=0x067b product=0x2303
# modprobe pl2303

Also check what dmesg says when you plug/unplug the cable. I get
ohci_hcd 0000:03:00.0: wakeup
usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using address 3
pl2303 1-1:1.0: PL-2303 converter detected
usb 1-1: PL-2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0

I only ever get the cable to show up as a usb device.
