Perhaps better wxWidgets documentation might help.  Or maybe ask Julian 
Smart to stop raking it in on 10 year old software,
and re-write it .

If it was written in python instead of C++,  it wouldn't core dump , 
most likely  ( but then maybe the performance wouldn't be any good).
