Since a test result cannot be entered for a patient without linking it to a
test type, then any test type which has been characterized by a normal
(reference) range that is stable (invariant) for that test can reasonably have
that range copied from

        test_type columns for normal range

into the

patient's measurement columns for normal range

whereas in other cases -- say, where the norms can vary for the test (say,
based on patient age) -- no single stable "normal value" may be available by
which to characterize the test_type.

OTOH when a patient result is imported via scripts, the normal or reference
range that was supplied by the laboratory to accompany that very patient's
result would obviously be appropriate to copy into the

patient's measurement columns for normal range
