Does the form engine only currently "know" because currently it can only be 
LaTex?

Begging this next question …

If additional formats are later supported, thus potentially putting the form 
engine in a situation to have to decide how to escape the data, will this be 
sufficiently clear from

        format

or may do you anticipate a future need to re-deploy "escape style" ?
