Hm ;).

When same data is kept on multiple machines, each instance is called replica
of data. When we merge different *versions* of replicas to same 'new version',
this operation is called replication.

When we want information to exchanged between different kind of *machines*
(e.g. between TabletPC's calendar and Notes' calendar), we call it syncing.

Above is described how things work in Notes and what terms are used. And, your 
example is just that what replication does in Notes; merge changes, made in
different version of replicas, into a new *different* version. 

Also, it might be confusing to use term 'syncing', since there are a *lot of* 
people how understand this kind of operation with term 'replication'.
