http://mywiki.wooledge.org/BashGuide would be an excellent start, as
would asking questions in #bash on freenode and the other documents on
that wiki.

A lot of it comes from learning from others, a lot comes from
documentation, experimentation, and some comes from reading the source
code.  The man page is meant as a reference, not a tutorial.
