I noticed that mldonkey is sending UDP packets to the old socket for a
while (after the IP changed).

It's not a bad idea to add something like this (change IP to suit):

echo -e "close_all_sockets\nq\n" | netcat 192.168.1.2 4000

to one of your ip-up scripts.
