There could be an alternative: consider that things in stable should be 
"safe" (no security hole, and programs should not crash more than 
previous stable versions), and that maybe mldonkey (and most other p2p 
clients, except perhaps bittorrent) is thus unfit to stable.

So just release mldonkey in unstable, and in backports.org, for people 
wanting to run it on stable, but willing to take the risk.
