We use it mostly for the group functionality which we have
over 1600 of.  Could it be group related?

What are the diff options for unified?  I'm not patch master
... but I can re-run the diff if you tell me what options
you want.

I have tried with a 3000 users. How many do you got in yours
? I've tried to chown 3000 files. It did work.

Anyway, it should not even matter. nscd should only use its
opened connections in all situations. There might be a race
somewhere.

I've just received the patch and will look at it soon. (BTW,
next time please provide an unified diff, I have a terrible
time parsing context diffs :-)
