Follow-up Comment #7, bug #57049 (project octave):

> You might try "make maintainer-clean" to clear out most cruft. 

This build is done using a fresh clone or export of the Octave repo each time.
The only things the build process is doing are applying a couple patches,
running `./bootstrap`, and then `configure && make` from inside a `build/`
subdirectory. I don't think there's any cruft leftover from previous builds.
