When using the latest development version:

Sometimes I like to create placeholder files, .m files, for functions or
classes.

Using the file browser tab and using the right button over a directory it is
possible to have the option “New File…”. The dialog asks for a file name
and creates an empty file as it is expected.

The problem then happens when we double click the new file. It opens the file
in the editor but with a spinning wheel always on. In one case I also had a
crash “octave exited with signal 11”.

If I use an external editor and the add a single character the problem goes
away. So, as far as I can see, the problem only occurs when the file is empty.
