Follow-up Comment #59, bug #65431 (group octave):

I will package a small example. It is a different form of the same input I
provided.   The outcome is either crash or plot window freeze on my end. Not
as straightforward/clean as the prior example.  Thanks.   

Again, I just cannot find the documentation to tell me that only certain
combinations of patch inputs would work and others won't. 

And I think (better than 50% guess) that the final uniform representation of
patch in Octave is face/vertex, not xdata, ydata and zdata. So I no longer
look at the xyz data in the handle as geometry.
