Follow-up Comment #23, patch #9980 (project octave): NaN vs. [] is probably a matter of Matlab-compatibility, which is of more importance for core Octave than for O-F packages. In this case all the more so as your functions are named differently than in Matlab to start with. So, with that out of the way I agree with you on this detail. As to complexity of ND-arrays, I'm with you too :-) I think it's worthwile to check out the tests I uploaded in comment #20 and check if there are no alarming differences or bugs.
