That has been my experience as well.  That regenerating the files fixes 
it confirms that it's /something/ screwy with the local database -- 
correct on that point.  However, that it has happened to multiple people 
equally indicates that there's something within pan, that is, something 
about how pan interacts with certain servers or specific messages, 
triggering it; that it's not a simple isolated one-off due to some local 
and not reproducible filesystem corruption or the like.  IOW, there's a 
rare bug, triggered by /something/ that can exist "out there", that's 
causing it.

If they'd quit with the extra hours I'm getting at work, maybe I'd have 
time to track it down.  OTOH, as I've said, I can't complain too much as 
my budget is liking it.  Frustrating tradeoff!  Right now, all I can do 
is hope someone with the necessary skills and time gets hit with it, so 
the bug can be found and with suitable ceremony, squashed!  Well, that 
and lend moral support when others hit the bug too.  As I said, 
frustrating! =8^(
