Well, it took me a while to find what you meant by "do a save
as"; but I now have a folder of stuff I can find, with the messages in
this thread so far, encumbered with vast amounts of headers, but as
separate, editable files.

From those, I'm pretty sure I can dig out the actual texts,
modify them ad hoc, and come up with what I want -- first to keep for my
own use, and only after that, if at all, for email.

Start Excursus -- if in doubt, ignore.

One little list that I help run (a private one devoted to
hunting) has been being forced to move about; I think a home is in sight.

In the process, some subscribers yearned for the archives. We
found them. Our new host thinks he can append them to the new ones just
started at his location.

That reminded me first that I've never seen a good way to search
such archives, and second that Gmane's fedora.general list has been
posting a great long thread on the subject -- which I haven't had time to
look at, and want to preserve till I do. Maybe it'll include something we
can use on our little private list; and I might even be able to edit that
part into an exposition for the subscribers.

        End Excursus.

Judging from what Pan has just done with this little thread so
far, I think I have what I need. Many many thanks!
